I am honored to be your child's teacher this school year. This school year will be my fourth at Cedar Creek, but my 14th year of teaching. I moved here from Los Angeles where I previously taught kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in the city of Compton. I attended the University of California, Santa Cruz and majored in Film. I worked in the film industry for five years until I realized my calling as a teacher. A big part of this can be attributed to my mom who was a 1st grade teacher for over 30 years. As a teenager, she'd take me to her classroom in the summers and put me to work taking staples out of the bulletin boards and cleaning out her filing cabinets. Somehow this made a great impression.
My wife and I decided to relocate to Austin for myriad reasons; the foremost being its reputation as a fantastic place to raise a family. Austin has more than lived up to this hype. When I think about Austin, however, the children, families, and staff of Cedar Creek Elementary highlight everything I love about Austin. We have two incredible children. Jack is a 10 year old 5th grader and Madeline is an almost 5 year old kindergartener!
I love teaching and I love teaching kindergarten. It is so amazing to see the growth kids make from the time they enter kindergarten to the day they leave. Kids this age are capable of achieving so much. Never underestimate what your child is capable of.
